I'M DONE WITH THE LOVE BITS TODAY by Laura Lippman

Now I'm on the dirty slide to death

past your forgotten stubble

the dirty sink the unflushed bowl

the moldy shower forgotten

behind the curtain

Flies and hornet corpses fill the doorjambs

carpet left stained and coffee-ground

webs in the corners and behind the eyes

tools tumbled

words jumbled in a sentence that rumbles on

No frenzy and scorch left behind

barnacle skin scrapes at night

crusted heels sandpapers soft skin

long, unshorn nails slice gelid underbelly

Still better here than gone.
